Textilene® Adds Function and Fashion: Our USA made, Alabama-sourced material overlays the nose and cheeks - adding durability to these wear zones as well as a touch of color and flair.Easy to Use Adjustability: A single-buckle crown, adjustable chin, and throat snap makes the fit perfect for your horse, and the use easy for you.Expert Craftsmanship: Sturdy double stitching throughout ensures the layers don't separate, box stitching at wear points creates extreme durability, and heated buckle holes prevent fraying.Quality Materials: Only the best heavy-duty 1" nylon is used, and it's doubled throughout the halter - except at the snaps and rings, where it's triple folded for increased durability.Breakaway Safety Design: Below the buckle on the crown lies the breakaway fuse - a thin piece of leather that will break under pressure, sparing your horse from potentially severe injuries.I tie them solid so things will NOT break if they were to pull back. You don't have to sacrifice fashion for function any longer! I do not tie.įor any other time that I tie a horse (not trailering), I do not use breakaway halters or ties. But myself personally, when I haul with a stock trailer, I leave the horses loose. If you are hauling in a stock trailer, if you want to tie, then you may have to do things different (because you won't have the slants). For safety reasons, the horses ALWAYS get untied before that back door opens. Then I will go to the window and attach the trailer tie to the horse is "tied". I have a slant load, so I will load a horse, close the slant divider, load the next horse, close the slant divider, THEN close the back door. I use both breakaway halters and quick release snaps because if we were to get into an accident, I don't want my horses "hung" if they fall in the trailer and/or if the trailer gets tipped (heaven forbid). Make sure to attach the quick release snaps to the window side (NOT the horse) so that you can easily access it from the outside if need be. When I haul my horses, I use both breakaway halters and ties that have quick release snaps. The doctor reassured me that as long as I'm working around large animals, it won't be my last :icon_rolleyes: On a side note, it was my first trip to the hospital. Some people at the arena were saying that they had known horses that pulled back on an breakaway trailer tie, and when it broke it hit the horse in an eye and they had to be removed. Like if her legs had slipped off the back and gotten caught underneath. I'm quite glad she was wearing this one, because if she wasn't I would be afraid that she or I could've gotten hurt much, much worse. Now, I'm curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience with a breakaway halter. My mom brought down our trailer as we figured she might load better into something she's used to, and the ride home was perfectly fine. My mare was fine (thankfully!) and she didn't have even a scratch. I didn't have an concussion or anything serious. I was taken to the ER and they glued them. I had two fairly deep gashes near my hairline, on both sides of my head. The halter did its job and broke, but it happened to recoil and the buckles hit me in the forehead. I'm standing next to her head, and it all happened so quickly it didn't register in my mind to pull the quick-release knot. Realizing she was tied she panicked and pulled back against the rope. I load her again, and as I finish tying her she tries to back out again. Horses were fine on ride down, playday went great, and when we went to load up to head home, my mare backed out on her first try. My mare loads wonderful into our two horse straight load, this was her first time in a stock trailer. A friend and I hauled together to a local gaming playday, and we hauled in her small stock trailer. She's been doing great! But will occasionally still get frightened and want out. My horse was previously abused to get her to load, and we've worked on it with a trainer for awhile now. This last weekend however, I was in an accident involving the halter. I got a breakaway halter a few months ago from Perris Leather, I love it and have been using it since. Hey all, I'm wondering about your opinions on breakaway leather halters.
